Our Favourite #BuySingLit Children's Titles

#BuySingLit returns bigger and better in 2019! An industry-led movement to celebrate stories from Singapore and to encourage more people to discover and embrace Singapore’s literature， this year's #BuySingLit spans over two weekends from 8-0 and 15-17 March. 

In conjunction with #BuySingLit, we thought we should share with you some of our favourite local Mandarin children's titles! In case you are not aware, we do have many incredibly talented children's books author & illustrators in Singapore! Check these titles out at your nearest public library, or at the many participating #BuySingLit stores, including our favourite bookstore, Maha Yu Yi!

Book #1 《去阿嫲家》   suitable for children aged 5 and above

WHY WE LOVE IT

• Main character Yang Yang hops onto a double-decker bus and begins his adventure as a "bus captain". Just this story idea alone makes the book super appealing to little ones who simply love sitting at the front row and imagnie themselves going through all sorts of adventure!
• Extremely detailed illustrations so rich that our team can spend more than an hour storytelling! Also contains many familiar local landmarks which will definitely strike a chord with readers young and old.
• Simple sentences make it very manageable for budding readers to follow. There is HYPY, which makes it easy for independent readers too.

Book #2 《妈姐的金鱼灯笼》   suitable for children aged 5 and above

WHY WE LOVE IT

• A uniquely Singaporean picture book about Majie, women who came from China's Guangdong to work in Singapore as domestic helpers. 
• The illustrations by Patrick Yee are awesome, with rich details on every page of the book. Children can learn a great deal about Singapore history just by exploring the scenes and objects depicted in the book too!
• We recorded an audio version of the story for Speak Mandarin Campaign last year! Play it for your child while he/she reads the story book!

WHY WE LOVE IT

• Everyone LOVES the stories and illustrations created by 阿果叔叔!  
• A super hilarious story about little boy Bu Bu who thought he lost his nose when in fact, he was merely suffering from a blocked nose! An extremely clever idea to teach young children adjectives and also the different characteristics of the noses of various animals.
• Great way to get budding readers hooked on reading as this is just ONE of the six books under the Bu Bu series!

WHY WE LOVE IT

• Each title features a popular local attraction (e.g. Botanic Gardens, Changi Airport, River Safari and more!), so if you run out of ideas on where to bring your little one(s) out on weekends, just use the books as a guide!
• These easy-to-read books are great for helping kids to match spoken words with print and for building up confidence in reading.
• There are mini activities at the end of each title, and if you get our Timmy & Tammy story pack, you will also receive our set of specially designed literary logs that contain interactive activities for your little one(s) to complete!
