Read! Fest is back for the 5th year running! This National Library Board’s annual literary festival continues to celebrate the joy of reading, this year dedicated to The Pursuit of Happiness. Join Dandelion at Read! Fest 18 for《免费赠送》故事会, an interactive storytelling session on 3 July at Woodlands Regional Library! This is a story of generous Mr Schneider who had a basket of apples to give out for free. He wrote a note and left it on top of the basket. However, the wind blew the note away, and the sequence of events that happened thereafter turned out to be both hilarious and unbelievable. Simple yet wonderful, this story teaches us to be kind and generous, in a fun and engaging manner. Interactive elements include role-playing and a hands-on activity at the end of the story. Admission is free but registration is required. Register at https://www.nlb.gov.sg/golibr…/e/interactive-cl-storytelling now! We just concluded 4 day camps for CDAC (Chinese Development Assistance Council) for children aged 5 to 8! For the pre-schoolers, we had the Let's Explore Shapes “神奇的形状” Camp. We explored the wonderful people and things around us through themed activities. Participants learnt to explore and observe their surroundings, see connections between objects, and better appreciate the world they live in. It was a great opportunity for the little ones to showcase their creativity and develop interest in learning the Chinese language. Let your little one have fun learning Chinese at home too! Our Let's Explore Shapes story pack is now up for sale! For the lower Primary students, we had Camp Gratitude “欢乐感恩假期营”. The participants were led on a journey to explore & appreciate the wonderful people and things around them, to learn about love & gratitude, and most importantly, to have loads of fun learning Mandarin using our 《妈妈的小小向日葵》story pack! Through wonderful stories, they also got to showcase their creativity and develop positive moral values. Team Dandelion is really thrilled to have spent such a meaningful and fruitful last week of the June school break with the children at CDAC, enjoying the power of stories, and having fun learning Chinese! Let your little one have fun learning Chinese at home too! Our 《妈妈的小小向日葵》Sunflower story pack is now up for sale! One of the major festivals in Chinese culture, the Dumpling Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, celebrates the famous poet Qu Yuan who is said to have leapt into a river when an evil king captured his kingdom. Fishermen tried to save him by beating on drums and splashing their oars to keep the water dragons away. When they realized that it was too late, they scattered rice dumplings into the river so that his soul would never be hungry. Picture books are excellent in getting your little one ready and excited for festivals! Here are our top picks! P/S: Click on the images to purchase the books online! Want to spend some quality family time over the weekend just before the Dumpling Festival? Join us in our Interactive Storytelling cum Craft Session on 17 June at Maha Yu Yi (Bras Basah Complex L3)! All participants will receive our Dumpling Festival Story Pack (worth $49.90) and a $10 book voucher. The kids from our June Sunflower holiday camp are all ready for the upcoming Dumpling Festival! Using our very own 《伊伊,端午节快乐》Dumpling Festival Story Pack, we learnt all about the traditional Chinese festival, from the story of Qu Yuan, to the different flavours of rice dumplings (fondly known as bak chang), and not forgetting our very own dragon boat race! We even had a post-lunch trip to Singapore's largest children's Chinese book store, Maha Yu Yi! Not forgetting our special guest, Ms Ding Li, more fondly known as 丁丁老师! Author of our featured story book 《伊伊,端午节快乐》, she shared the wonderful story with our camp participants, followed by hands-on craft and language activities! |
